Serving Our Community Through ESOL
With such a diverse population in northern Virginia, as a church we feel called us to help those hailing from other countries develop the English language skills they need to succeed here.
We offer English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes each week on Monday evenings at 7:00-9:00 pm and on Thursday mornings 9:30-11:30 am. Students are invited to attend either or both classes each week.
We offer Basic, Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced-level classes, all taught by trained volunteers. There is generally a class at each level available on both Monday evenings and Thursday mornings.
What You Can Expect
Our goal is to provide a friendly, welcoming, and encouraging environment. We begin each class with an ice breaker activity and offer a snack midway through our instruction period. Our instructors are trained volunteers who offer quality English language instruction to our students. They are always excited to see new students in the program! There are multiple nations represented among our students, so expect to meet a few new people!
You do not have to be a Christian to attend. We do not require our students to believe what we believe, just to have the desire to learn English! We will read a Bible verse as a group during the English language instruction period, however the rest of the instruction is focused on English language instruction. You are welcome to ask any questions you would like about what we believe or teach.
How to Register
Registration is CLOSED for spring classes. To register, please attend the first class of the semester, which generally happens in September and January. Check the church events calendar for information on the registration day. The cost to participate is $30 dollars per semester. If there is financial hardship, please let us know. There are some scholarships available each semester to help with the fee. For information on other ESOL classes available in this area, please visit www.cbesol.org.
The church is located at 10610 Sunset Hills Road in Reston, at the corner of Sunset Hills Road and Hunter Mill Road. (Access directions.) There is plenty of free parking. You can also use Metro Silver Line (Wiehle Ave. stop) and a Fairfax Connector Bus (Rt. 507) to reach us on weekdays. (See bus information.)
We will cancel classes in the event of inclement weather, following the Fairfax County Public Schools. You can find out if schools are closed by visiting their site. If Fairfax County schools are closed, ESOL classes are cancelled. Morning classes are also cancelled when Fairfax County schools open late for bad weather. Evening (night) classes are cancelled when Fairfax County schools close early for bad weather.
